There is something truly magical about your baby’s first Christmas. There is nothing like Christmas through your child’s eyes. Just the thought of celebrating my child’s first Christmas brings back the most beautiful memories. My son’s first Christmas is when my husband and I started the majority of our family’s traditions.
Babies bring so much joy into our lives that it makes celebrating Christmas a family all that more special. There are so many beautiful ways to make your baby’s first Christmas one you will never forget. Is your baby going to remember their first Christmas? Of course not, but you will make memories that will last a lifetime. When you put their baby’s first Christmas ornament on the tree each year you will be sent back to the year they celebrated their first Christmas. It’s a feeling I can’t describe but look forward to each and every year.
Christmas is such a joyful time of year and now the celebration becomes more meaningful since starting your family.
Do not let anyone rain on your Christmas parade – I had a family member I shouldn’t even celebrate my son’s first Christmas any differently because he’s too young to know the difference. Thankfully, I was smart enough not to listen. He was in awe of the lights, ornaments, and different things we did with him that year. It was so special to our family. You have to do what feels right for you and your family.
Celebrate Your Baby’s First Christmas With These Unforgettable Traditions
BABY’S 1ST CHRISTMAS TRADITION #1: CHRISTMAS PHOTO SHOOT
What’s Christmas without a ton of pictures. Baby photoshoots are all the rage these days and can easily be done at home. Why not purchase a fun Christmas outfit or pajamas and set up a fun photo area to take festive photos of your little one. This would also make for a wonderful Christmas card idea. Here’s an example of what I used for my son’s 1st Christmas card. I still have this framed in my office. This will be his 10th Christmas. It never gets old <3
BABY’S 1ST CHRISTMAS TRADITION #2: FAMILY BAKING DAY
For as long as I can remember my family has always baked together for Christmas. If you are celebrating your baby’s first Christmas this year put them in a high chair and let them participate. By that I mean give them safety cookie cutters, small pieces of dough to play with, or other safe baking tools. This goes without saying but never leave your baby unattended when in the kitchen.
BABY’S 1ST CHRISTMAS TRADITION #3: BABY’S FIRST CHRISTMAS EVE BOX
Christmas Eve traditions are something I look forward to each and every year. I live for making Christmas eve boxes for my family. My kids still get SO excited knowing they are getting Christmas Eve boxes when their Elves depart for the journey back to the North Pole. This is a tradition I started their very first Christmas. A Christmas eve box for your baby is easier to put together than you think. All you need is the following:
- new pair of PJs
- Christmas themed pacifier
- festive baby toy
- a holiday stuffed animal
- maybe a seasonal food pouch if they are of age
BABY’S 1ST CHRISTMAS TRADITION #4: MATCHING CHRISTMAS PJS
One of the easiest and most fun Christmas traditions you can start your baby’s 1st year is matching family pajamas. It is something so simple you can do year after year to help add to the magic of the holiday season. You will get the BEST photos and memories that you can look back on for years to come.

BABY’S 1ST CHRISTMAS TRADITION #6: FESTIVE OUTFITS
An adorable way to celebrate your Baby’s 1st Christmas is with adorable holiday-themed outfits. To be honest, I went completely overboard with both of my kids and their holiday outfits for their 1st Christmas. My family joked that both of them had 24 days of outfits. They did have a lot, but thankfully there was a huge baby boom and friends were able to reuse them. Dressing your baby up for the holiday is such a fun way to celebrate such a fun time of year. Here are a couple of fun outfits to try for your Baby’s 1st Christmas.
BABY’S 1ST CHRISTMAS TRADITION #7: MAKE SANTA’S FIRST TRIP MAGICAL
Sure, your baby might not remember their first Christmas but YOU will. Santa can visit their first year and it can still be filled with wonder and magic. Build the foundation for future family traditions. Start with a trip to visit Santa for your first ever photo with Santa, read board books about the guy with the beard, and last by not least have Santa visit with fun gifts your little one is sure to love. My son’s first Christmas was tough, I had a hard time figuring out what to get him for Christmas so I put together a guide of the best gifts to buy your baby. There are tons of great ideas and I hope it helps you!
Here’s to having the most magical first Christmas with your baby. You are about to make memories that you will look back on fondly for the rest of your life! Enjoy your holidays!
