Christmas always feels like it’s quickly approaching – am I right? In our family, we love being fully prepared so we can enjoy the magic of Christmas being as stress-free as possible! One thing we love to each year is host weekly Christmas movie nights.  We love snuggling up together to watch one of our favorites from the 10 best family Christmas movies. It’s the perfect way to wind down during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.  When my kids were small and not in school we had much more time to watch our favorite Christmas movies. Now that they are both schoolage we make it a priority to watch a Christmas movie together at least once each weekend. It is something my family looks forward to each week leading to Christmas. Both of my children are under the age of 8 so these 10 Best Family Christmas Movies are perfect for us to watch as a Countdown to Christmas.

Home Alone Movie

1 – Home Alone

::KEVIN:: Home Alone is my Tyler’s absolute favorite. If I let him he would watch Home Alone all year round. Poor Kevin is left alone after getting into a squabble with his family at dinner the night before they are set to leave on a holiday vacation. When Kevin wakes the next day he realizes he’s been left home alone. Madness ensues as he needs to protect his home from a burglary invasion.  Kevin succeeds in his quest to fit off the bad guys but sadness sets in as he realizes he will be alone for Christmas. Much to Kevin’s surprise, he sees his Mother has made it home just in time for Christmas.

2 – Muppet Christmas Carol

Charles Dicken’s classic “A Christmas Carol” is retold through the Muppet’s perspective. When I was a child I watched this with my family every year. Last year was the first time my own children saw and they immediately loved it! Both of them are looking forward to watching it again this year.  It’ a Christmas classic that delights audiences of all ages. A wonderful tale filled with life lessons that your family is sure to enjoy.

3 – The Original Christmas Collection

Do you recall the most famous reindeer of all? Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is here with all of his friends including Santa and Frosty the Snowman! What’s Christmas without the original crew? My children have yet to outgrow their obsession with Rudolph and I secretly hope it lasts forever!!  Like I said, this collection includes such timeless staples as Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. The must-have collection for every family that celebrates Christmas.

4 – How the Grinch Stole Christmas

[pullquote width=”300″ float=”left”]“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas…perhaps…means a little bit more!” [/pullquote][pullquote width=”300″ float=”left”][/pullquote]
― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

My Simone loves the Grinch. In our home when we watch the Grinch we try to extend it with a special treat and activity. The Grinch is a classic Christmas tale by the beloved Dr. Suess.  It is a must-watch in our house each and every Christmas – sometimes twice!

6 – Elf

The Best Way to Spread Christmas Cheer is by Singing Loud for All To Hear! Buddy the Elf is a family favorite! In fact, Christmas in our house doesn’t officially start until Buddy the Elf makes an appearance on our television screen. This year, I’m going to go all out and put together a Buddy the Elf themed movie night with specialty snacks, games, decor and more. I’ll be sure to put a post together so you can see how it turns out! Any excuse for sugary foods and lots of laughs and my kids are in!

7 – Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas

Find out who’s been naughty and who’s been nice in this spectacular all-new Christmas celebration. Santa Claus joins Mickey, Minnie, and all their pals in an original movie about discovering the true joys of Christmas. An instant classic for any Disney fan!

8 – Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Learn how Santa became Santa in this classic Christmas movie. Santa Claus is coming to town is a classic story centered around our favorite guy with the big red big. Are you on the naughty or nice list this year?

9 – A Christmas Story

You’ll Shoot Your Eye Out! Hilarity ensues as Ralphie, tries to convince his parents and even his teacher, Miss Shields, that a Red Ryder BB gun is the perfect Christmas gift for a nine-year-old boy.

10 – The Polar Express

If You Just Believe! In my opinion, I saved the best for last! The Polar Express is easily one of my favorite movies of all time let alone favorite Christmas movie! We always make cookies and hot chocolate to enjoy while we watch this holiday classic.

Final Thoughts

Do you have any Christmas traditions that you do every year with your family? I would love to hear about them! As you can tell, I’m always looking for new and fun ways to extend the magic of Christmas! Watching a Christmas movie together has been part of our families Christmas tradition since long before I had children. In fact, every Christmas Eve once the children are asleep my husband and I watch Love Actually together as we prepare our home for Christmas morning. I look forward to watching our favorite classic Christmas movies each and every year!
